The Culture Connect is an 8-day, 3 location hospitality event held in the height of East African summer. It is designed to showcase the African hospitality scene, one cocktail at a time.
Backstory
The Nairobi Bar Show, the Coastal Cocktail Competition, The Jumuiya Cocktail Festival and international take overs all used to happen in their silos at different times of the year.
The hospitality community decided that it’d be best to focus brand, consumer and community attention into one exciting 8-day event in Africa where our friends from abroad could experience the mother continent during our beautiful summer and our community at home could experience the brilliance of our international guests.
The event typically happens in February and runs as below
The Culture Connect Flow
Nairobi
Friday – The Jumuiya Cocktail Festival. This is an evening event replete with the beautiful people, great music and gourmet street food all underpinned by the finest cocktails c/o of local hero bars and international guest bars.
Saturday & Sunday – Team Swizzle uses these days to show our guests the city, immerse them in our hospitality culture and give them healthy breaks from industry activity. It’s a long way to come to be stuck doing prep in a lab all weekend right?
Monday – The Nairobi Bar Show. This is the hospitality industry’s yearly kick-off event at the Kenya International Conference Centre. #nbs is one of the most important platforms for the evolution of the hospitality industry in East Africa.
The Coast
Tuesday – We fly down to Diani Beach and hand the event over to the Diani hospitality community stewarded by Funky Monkey.
Wednesday – Sharing session in the morning from 10am with international guests at Funky Monkey followed by a day at leisure enjoying the beach. In the evening from 7pm onwards Funky Monkey comes alive with a bar takeover c/o our international guests.
Thursday – The Coastal Cocktail competition from 11am – 1pm followed by a day at leisure enjoying one of the best beaches in the world.
Friday – We drive to Kilifi and hand the event over to the Kilifi hospitality community stewarded by Salty’s Beach bar.

The Culture Connect is a great time for our global hospitality community to come and see what’s going on in Africa c/o of the Kenya scene.
We would like to remind you that you don’t have to come to everything, you can dip in and out of activities as it suits your flow.
If you have been promising yourself an Africa holiday, this is a great time to come to the continent.
